I’ve had an iphone 6 since last year and I really like it.

(disclaimer: my family has used macs since I can remember (pre-1993) so I might be slightly biased.)

My Dad used to not like Apple. Now he has Apple TV, a MacBook Air, an iPad, and a iPhone 4 that still works flawlessly.

What’s wrong with it? Have you rooted the phone and installed a custom ROM like CyanogenMod?

I had a 6 Plus for a solid two years with no real issues. I have a 7 Plus now.

What specifically has made you decide to drop? If it’s optics, then I highly recommend you try something with a Sony sensor to see if that changes your mind.

Despite the fact I’m an engineer, I’ve always had a mac. They’re starting to piss me off with the lack of USB ports on the new laptop, but then again I bought a mac mini last fall. Windows is good for things, but I prefer mac for my home computer. Also, most of my friends are engineers and most of them have iphones. I know a lot of people hate on apple, but imessage is pretty great, hell I can still talk to this Russian girl I’m fiends with, despite being on opposite sides of the world.

I dig it. I used to be very anti Apple, but if got an IPad, and decided to go Apple with my next phone, got a 6S. It’s pretty fast, and a good size.

Really? My 5X blows my old Droid out of the water, it’s great. Never tried an iPhone though, I’m not willing to pay the Apple premium.

-It crashes constantly.

-It now deletes words.

-It won’t allow me to turn off predictive text.

-The speaker works, occasionally.

-The camera turns itself on, multiple times a day. And I don’t mean that I accidentally hit the button unlocking it.

-It disconnects Bluetooth on its on.

-The battery lasts 6 hours if I only use it occasionally. I carry a portable charger everywhere.

-The WiFi signal is absolute shit. My $50 Amazon Fire is better.

Shall I continue?

I switched to android after years of iPhones and I have never been happier. Though I went straight for the Samsung Note series. Best phones i have owned.

Only phone I hated was the Nokia Lumia I had running windows. Fuck that crap!

The 6S, new and unlocked, is about around what I paid for my 5X. A further explanation is under chaozbandit’s comment, but mine is terrible.

My G5 had to get a brand new camera after four months. The replacement camera has a splinter; it doesn’t block the lens, but still annoying.

Fair enough. I can’t say for the 5X but I had an original Nexus 5 for 6 months after it was launched. The software was nice but I can attest to the faulty hardware. Wasn’t the best experience, but at that price point it was enough of a package for me to justify keeping it around.

I’d still recommend you trying an S7 if you can; it’s a phone that can very well last you another few years, and I’ve known a lot of my own friends to switch. Also don’t shy away from brands like Huawei; YMMV though.

I’ve got the SE essentially a 6s in a 5 case. I like it best iPhone I’ve had and I’ve had 5 of them. Never switched to the android because the iPhone was out first and I’m lazy.

Hum... does it only “delete words” when you write on kinja? If so, it’s a bug with all mobile versions of Kinja and has nothing to do with the Nexus 5x. And what is predictive text? Can’t you install another keyboard? Have you tried the swype method with the google keyboard also? It works marvels on the Nexus 5x. As for the camera turning itself on, when the screen is turned off, a quick double click on the “on” button turns the camera on automatically.I think this is your problem. It is possible to disable this option but I’d have to look how to do it. Same goes for bluetooth. It’s a battery saving option that disconnects it automatically after a while if unused, this is a parameter that you can modify.

As for the wifi, I agree it’s not fantastic.

I don’T understand about your battery problem though. I use mine quite a bit and it lasts 1 full day and one night without any problem.

Did you upgrade to 7.0? It was defintiely better than 6 for me, though I had no problem with 6, it felt even faster and more fuild.

Kinja'd!!! Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies > Flavien Vidal

I have upgraded, and no, it’s not a Kinja specific problem. Predictive text is when you type a letter and it thinks of a word for you, or, annoyingly, “corrects” if you use a word not in it’s dictionary. Which is small, apparently. I have turned it off, but it still kicks in. Camera turns on even if I’m not touching the phone. Bluetooth says it’s on, won’t connect. Phone has to be turned off and back on for it to work again.

Hum, pretty weird. I have zero problems with mine, it works flawlessly, same for my wife’s and my mother in law lol (yeah, we bought in bulk haha).

I’d recommend you try out the swype method with the google keyboard. IT really, REALLY works well.

But I think a good factory reset would maybe solve a bunch of your problems at this point. Or send it back if it’s that buggy, because it’s really not normal and sounds more like defective hardware rather than an android specific problem.

At least with the stock android keyboard you can disable the auto correction if you go to Settings > Language & Input > Android Keyboard > Text Correction > Auto-correction > Off.

Crashing depends on the apps you have installed as some are really buggy but it has happened to me in iOS too, mind you it was on an old iPad, I’m sure the new iPhones have no issues when it comes to stability.

He probably doesn’t update his phone then... Iphones are known to be quite terrible after 1 or 2 OS updates, slowing down like crazy. Not really Apple’s fault, but still, an updated 5 year old iphone on iOS 10 will be slow as hell.

http://www.imore.com/iphone-slow-explained-truth-about-ios-updates
This is something I’ve occasionaly experienced on android also, but it varies from update to update (4.4 was worse than 4.2 on my Nexus 4 but now it runs on 6.0 without any problem). I have yet to see an old iphone running new version of iOS well though...

Kinja'd!!!1

Understandable. Since the Lollipop update, weird things have been happening to LG based phones, and I believe your generation of Nexus phone was made by LG and is similarly spec’d like my LG G3. Marshmallow is better but is still buggy for our phones. AFAIK, these glitches only happen to our phones. Galaxy S6, LG G4 or G5, HTC, Moto Droids have fewer issues.

Better to hard factory reset and sell it than continuing being miserable.

Same. Well, about having an SE. I’ve always had *ahem* unique phones so this was my first iPhone - but let’s be real, it still ain’t the mainstream iPhone.

But the SE is a great phone - I completely concur. Now that I have an Apple Watch, I can see that Force Touch woulda been nice to have, but not a huge deal (yet). I’d give it one or two more iterations for it to fully catch on and actually make me feel like I’m missing something.

Same story here. I use Windows all day at work as an Engineer. It’s a great tool. But when I get home I just don’t want to deal with it. Especially without an IT department to deal with my AV and Firewalls. My Macs at home aren’t perfect, but they seem to run with less fuss overall.

I just bought a 6S Plus 128GB this very evening. I’m backing up the trusty ol’ 4S right now and can’t wait to start playing with this new toy. Thankfully I don’t have to be into work until 1800 tomorrow night so I can catch up on my sleep later.

So bummed that Project fi won’t use the Asus zenfone 3 premium, I am perfectly content with my Droid Turbo 2015 though, but if you a recommendation: remove Spotify from your mobile devices and primary pc drives (if it has flash storage ssd etc). Spotify reads and writes to your storage repeatedly during use and therefore deteriorates previously fast storage.

I don’t think it is worth saving $100 over the 7. They seem similar on paper, but it all adds up to a pretty substantial upgrade. If you already had an iPhone 6S I would say don’t brother upgrading to a 7, but since you are just coming over to Apple the 7 really is the best all-around deal. Also the matte black and jet black look amazing.

If you like the OS, go for it. It’s a good phone, albeit overpriced (I just typed this comment on mine, so I can attest to that). Definitely a better choice compared the 6 if you are planning to use it for more than one year.
